The busiest time for a fitness club is just after Christmas but many people stop attending within a few months so if you join a club you want to make sure they will motivate you enough to keep coming back. Finding the right one will be much simpler if you know what it is you want to get out of it. While that is important, there are some other factors to consider before you make your final decision. Not to be dismissed as a minor pint should be where the club is located, if it is not close to your place of work or home you will quickly find reasons not to go.
The instructor also needs to be well trained and a good motivator if you are someone that requires that level of attention. For people that may have specific requirements or physical limitations, the instructor needs to be made aware of these from the start. Appearances can be deceptive but the attitude of the staff when you ask them about the club and any other special services they can offer will tell you a great deal about how the club is run. If you have an interest in learning martial arts for example, see if the fitness club arranges lessons as many clubs have resident professional in a number of fields.
Try to find a club with flexible opening hours because it is no good if you can only attend in the evening when they are closed. If your intention is to join a fitness club for the classes, see if they will let you try some before you become a member. Take a look around the gymnasium to see they have enough equipment or you will find queues at busy times which will put you off attending. Modern equipment is safer and more comfortable to use but machines and other training facilities should be in clean and in good order so if you see a lot of ‘out of order’ signs, it could be something to think about.
Never pass up the opportunity to attend a club function if you are invited before you join as it is surprising who you can meet and you might even find a training buddy. It is important to know the monthly membership fee and what it covers as some clubs have hidden charges, also check to see if they offer services at an extra fee and how often they increase rates.
If you are serious about joining a fitness club, you will really need to look at more than one; after all it is your money! Take your time and don’t let the club rush you into joining because a club that wants you as a member will put your needs first if they are looking to keep you happy.
